Mauricio
Sitton was born in Buenos Aires. In 1918 he married Adela Fernandez
who was
born in the Canary Islands, and while traveling during the honeymoon
trip, he arrived at the coasts of the Isthmus of Panama, where the
unique beauty of the Chiriquí Province vegetation as well as
its enjoyable temperature captured his attention. In 1920, he purchased
the land to establish his first farm, which he named “Texas” and
later on in 1930 he sold it; by that time such farm was fully organized
and with a treble production, then he established a farm named “El
Laurel”.
Mauricio and Adela had five children, one of them excels, Don Jose
Elías
Sitton, whose extraordinary businessman capacity has given Panama one
of the more flourishing agro-industrial companies: The Sitton Coffee
Co. From the sowing and harvest to the processing that is carried out
in "El Beneficio de Sitton", including the coffee export, this
company generates many employments and related activities. His wife,
Doña Luisa Geenzier de Sitton and their descendents manage the
company.
In 1943 the business of selling coffee to consumers began in a
small store located in Colon Street, in Panama City. The Sitton
Coffee was
born there, a challenging brand that has evolved as the time changes.
Years later, Don Jose Elías moved his business to Calle Estudiante
and later on, to a large place, in Juan B. Sosa Street. Since 1977, Sitton
Coffee enjoys its own building, located in Jose Agustín Arango
Avenue, in front of Estadio Revolución.
Cafe Sitton, S. A. is engaged in coffee roasting, an activity that
consists in buying "gold" coffee, to roast and sell it to consumers.
The finished product is offered in different forms: ground, heavy or
extra fine, and concentrated. This is a high quality coffee with excellent
flavor.
In 1968 Don Jose Elías Sitton started the construction of a larger
plant called “El Beneficio de Sitton”, up-dated with innovative,
avantgarde processing system and with the larger processing capacity
of the country; this installation was completed in 1983. Don Tito Sitton
personally directed the works, placing of the equipment and the control
levels.
“
El Beneficio de Sitton” now has 35 years and it is under continuous
enhancement by renewing the equipment to keep it updated and in accordance
the spearhead technological developments, also it provides additional
services. For example, to process the coffee a lot of water is required,
so the farm has to two water tanks, one tank of hundred thousand gallons
and other tank of one hundred ninety thousand gallons; in addition it
has a seven kilometers aqueduct, the water is conveyed from the mountain
ranges. Several regions receive benefits from this aqueduct.
Mr. José Elías Sitton’s company is one of the main
coffee export companies of the Republic of Panama. The product is released
from “El Beneficio” directly to the piers, where the product
is shipped to overseas countries. Sitton Company exports “gold” coffee
to several countries, i.e., Canada, United States, Germany, Italy, France
and other European regions. Coffee is among the top five export products
of the Republic of Panama. Sitton Coffee produces a large percentage
of such total export volume. Our slogan is: “We saw effort to reap
progress”.
