Mauricio Sitton was born in Buenos Aires. In 1918 he married Adela Fernandez who was born in the Canary Islands, and while traveling during the honeymoon trip, he arrived at the coasts of the Isthmus of Panama, where the unique beauty of the Chiriquí Province vegetation as well as its enjoyable temperature captured his attention. In 1920, he purchased the land to establish his first farm, which he named “Texas” and later on in 1930 he sold it; by that time such farm was fully organized and with a treble production, then he established a farm named “El Laurel”.


Mauricio and Adela had five children, one of them excels, Don Jose Elías Sitton, whose extraordinary businessman capacity has given Panama one of the more flourishing agro-industrial companies: The Sitton Coffee Co. From the sowing and harvest to the processing that is carried out in "El Beneficio de Sitton", including the coffee export, this company generates many employments and related activities. His wife, Doña Luisa Geenzier de Sitton and their descendents manage the company.


In 1943 the business of selling coffee to consumers began in a small store located in Colon Street, in Panama City. The Sitton Coffee was born there, a challenging brand that has evolved as the time changes. Years later, Don Jose Elías moved his business to Calle Estudiante and later on, to a large place, in Juan B. Sosa Street. Since 1977, Sitton Coffee enjoys its own building, located in Jose Agustín Arango Avenue, in front of Estadio Revolución.


Cafe Sitton, S. A. is engaged in coffee roasting, an activity that consists in buying "gold" coffee, to roast and sell it to consumers. The finished product is offered in different forms: ground, heavy or extra fine, and concentrated. This is a high quality coffee with excellent flavor.


In 1968 Don Jose Elías Sitton started the construction of a larger plant called “El Beneficio de Sitton”, up-dated with innovative, avantgarde processing system and with the larger processing capacity of the country; this installation was completed in 1983. Don Tito Sitton personally directed the works, placing of the equipment and the control levels.


“ El Beneficio de Sitton” now has 35 years and it is under continuous enhancement by renewing the equipment to keep it updated and in accordance the spearhead technological developments, also it provides additional services. For example, to process the coffee a lot of water is required, so the farm has to two water tanks, one tank of hundred thousand gallons and other tank of one hundred ninety thousand gallons; in addition it has a seven kilometers aqueduct, the water is conveyed from the mountain ranges. Several regions receive benefits from this aqueduct.


Mr. José Elías Sitton’s company is one of the main coffee export companies of the Republic of Panama. The product is released from “El Beneficio” directly to the piers, where the product is shipped to overseas countries. Sitton Company exports “gold” coffee to several countries, i.e., Canada, United States, Germany, Italy, France and other European regions. Coffee is among the top five export products of the Republic of Panama. Sitton Coffee produces a large percentage of such total export volume. Our slogan is: “We saw effort to reap progress”.


Sitton Coffee has received numerous international prizes and awards. In 1984, this distinctly Panamanian product obtained the “IV Trofeo de Alimentacion America” [“IV America Food Trophy”] awarded in Miami. Apart from his business activity, Don Tito Sitton has been actively involved in the politic field. In 1952 he was elected Councillor of the District of Panama. In addition, he was one of the founders of the unforgettable supermarkets “Las Amigas del Pueblo”, “La Vizcaina”; he was also director and owner of the broadcasting station “Radio Musical”. The Sitton Coffee Company was the initiator of the facilities of the renowned “FERIA DE LAS FLORES Y DEL CAFE” [“FLOWERS AND COFFEE FAIR”] that annually takes place in the Province of Chiriqui.
